Creating the Cobalt Award

The ARMA International Cobalt Award was created to recognize the shift – and its resulting advantages – when an organization becomes focused on proper records and information management at a foundational, organizational level.

The award had its genesis in the standards and best practices that have made ARMA International the primary educational resource for its members and customers. Using official ANSI/ARMA standards (such as ISO 15489) as a guideline, a steering committee of ARMA International staff and leading practitioner consultants created a set of questions that could be posed to an organization in an effort to judge that organization’s commitment to excellence in managing its records and information. The committee then applied weights to the questions to provide a framework for the application.

A separate panel of judges views the responses to the applicants to determine finalists. The judges selected represent top practitioners of records and information management, IT, compliance, and legal professionals.

Judges for the application and ARMA International staff are subject to a non-disclosure agreement, ensuring that your response to the application questions will be held in the strict confidence you would expect from ARMA International.

Winners will discuss promotional efforts with ARMA International and agree on ways their success will be promoted to the wider ARMA International and business community.

The awards process and application questions are continually reviewed to ensure that they accurately measure the commitment to organizational excellence in managing records and information.
